Self-Registration Guide: 12 Step Guide to Scheduling - Your How to Use the Student Portal cheat sheet.
OSS Oracle Student System
FALL REGISTRATION
Navigating around the OSS system may be an unfamiliar process for some students. As you access your DeVRY Student Portals and get accustomed to the screen layouts, keep an eye out for changes as this system continues to evolve.
10 Basic Steps to Registration
- Login to your DeVRY STUDENT PORTAL at my.devry.edu. NOTE: the first time you log into your portal you will use your DSI number for your User Name and your birth date for your Password (six-digit YYYYMM). You will then be required to reset your password - 6 character minimum alpha-numeric.
DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSWORD. There is no question/answer prompt if you forget it. The local on-campus Helpdesk cannot reset your password, so if you forget it, you must submit the online form on the login screen to get it reset to the default (YYYYMM). - CHECK YOUR HOLDS. Log into your portal and go to the "Welcome" screen. Top right in pale yellow is a "My Status" box. You can get your hold cleared in Student Cental. If you have a hold, it will post here. Possible holds:
- Delinquent Financial Aid
- Delinquent Student Accounts
- Delinquent Housing
- Missing Health Insurance Proof - Please See Registrar
- Please Contact Academic Advisor for Advisory Hold
- Missing Official Proof of Graduation - Please See Registrar
If you are a student with a listed registration hold, this hold must be cleared prior to scheduling. You cannot submit a schedule if you have a registration hold. Get in the habit of checking your portal regularly (At least once a month - during registration, at least every week or two weeks.) to make sure you keep yourself informed of your status. CLEAR YOUR HOLDS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. - READ THE REGISTRATION MATERIALS and familiarize yourself with dates, times and expectations. All students have the same opportunity to begin scheduling for classes.
- Print off a copy of your program PLAN OF STUDY from the website ( http://www.kc.devry.edu/). These documents are the templates of your degrees and will assist you with determining which courses to take next. Where to go? From the KC DeVRY homepage, you will find a link for "Registration Information" at the bottom of the screen. Click it. You are now in the registration support site. Go to Plans of Study/Announcements (in the left, in blue) and you will find your Plan of Study as well as any additional program announcements. Be careful when searching for a plan of study as the most recent version will be under "Program Updates". If you are not in your first term, your plan of study may be an older one. Questions? Ask your Student Success Coach.
- Personal curriculum records. CHECK DEGREE NAVIGATOR. This application is available in your student portal and will track you through to graduation. All students should take time to get familiarized with this valuable tool. In addition, all students are responsible for reviewing and confirming that their student record information is accurate. As degree requirements may change, ensure that your record in Degree Navigator is correct every semester by giving it a careful review. If you have any questions about Degree Navigator or information listed therein, contact your Student Success Coach.
- Print out a copy of the REGISTRATION CATALOG (PDF) for all sorts of information such as policy changes, curriculum revision announcements, deadlines and opportunities as well as the listing of November 2009 term courses (including dates, times, professors and room numbers).
- DETERMINE YOUR FALL CLASS SCHEDULE. Take care to ensure that you account for lab classes and all hours of a given course so you don't accidentally try to schedule a conflict. Remember, you need 6 HOURS MINIMUM to be eligible for Financial Aid.
Questions? There are detailed guides of directions and screen prints available in the Help
link of the "Registration Information" page at http://www.kc.devry.edu/
(look for "12 Step Guide to Scheduling"). - PRINT OFF A COPY of your schedule. As always... if you cannot print off a copy (from "View My Schedule" available under "My Tools" in the left-hand side of your first portal screen after logging in), then you missed a step and may need to reattempt enrolling.
Double-check that you enrolled at the proper campus. ( Kansas City vs. Columbus, Atlanta, Houston, Downtown, Online, etc.). - STATEMENT OF INTENT. As you enroll, if you are a session-based student who elects to take a session off (either A or B), but you intend to return the following session, you MUST provide written documentation of that intent, regardless of whether or not you have a class schedule. This policy is being implemented to comply with federal Financial Aid guidelines. Failure to do so will result in Intermission (a withdrawal of all scheduled classes) and may impact your grace period for your financial aid.
The statement of intent must be in writing. Emails, typed letters or handwritten notes are all acceptable. The statement must be submitted to the staff in Student Central. This is required of a student who only enrolls in one session (A-only or B-only classes and ONLY enrolled in one session (A-only or B-only). - DONE.
